I'm trying to limit Jack's pacifier usage to just nap and bedtimes. So, he got a little resourceful this morning. I guess puzzle pieces are his new soother.

Fall Fest Time!
I LOVE this time of year! The leaves are starting to turn, the weather's nice and crisp, it's football season, and there are so many fun things to do! There is an old farm near my parent's house called Salomon Farm that has a fall festival every year. The kids and I, along with Uncle Jon, Aunt Diane and the girls, were able to take a hay ride, pet all sorts of animals, and pick out the perfect baby pumpkins. Isabella did inform me while we were there that she's going to be a farmer when she gets older and plow fields.

Game Day!

Going to School
Today was Isabella's 1st day of school. When I first put her application in for preschool I was really excited about her going, but to be honest this morning was hard for Mommy! She was so excited though, which did make it easier for me. When her teacher came to the car line to get her, Isabella had a huge smile on her face. I waved bye to her and told her how much I loved her. Yes, it's only 2 1/2 hours three mornings a week, but I'm still going to miss my little girl (and even her 3 year old moments).

Remembering
Do you remember where you were 8 years ago today? I do. I was working for an oil and well company in Corpus Christi, Texas. I had just walked into the office and my boss asked me if I had heard what happened. I hadn't, but I immediately turned on the radio and tried to get to foxnews.com. I'll never forget the sinking feeling I felt in my stomach. Just 7 months before Steve and I were married. He was in the middle of pilot training. We were married "pre-war," but I knew that this would change a lot of things for us.
I'll never forget watching TV that night, seeing all those family members searching for their loved ones, posting pictures of those missing. I can't imagine the feeling of desperation they must have had.
I remember how our country came together. I remember watching all the members of the Congress standing on the Capital steps, singing God Bless America. It's amazing what a difference 8 years make.
Today reminds me of why Steve's gone. He's fighting for our country. He wants Isabella and Jack to grow up in a country that is safe and free. It also hit me today that our kids will not know what it was like to live in America pre 9/11, and that's sad to me.

The 10th
The 10th of each month is a milestone date in our family this year (I was going to say house, but well, we don't have a house). Jack turns a month older on the 10th, and it's also the day of the month that brings us a month closer to having Daddy back!

Jack 14 month stats:
Walking: No
Showing signs of the terrible twos: Yes
Drinking his milk from a sippy: N0
Starting to "interact" with his sister: Yes
Jack took his first "step" about a week ago, but isn't showing any signs of doing it again anytime soon. His little personality is starting to come out, and it's all boy. He loves to play ball, spin cars around, bang things together loudly, and LOVES to wrestle. His favorite person to wrestle with is Isabella, though she's not always a willing participant. My little cuddler would much rather be playing that sitting on Mommy's lap, and that's a bit sad. He still has his adorable two teeth grin, as no new teeth have come in yet. He does have a bit of a temper though, arching his back whenever he's removed from an "out of bounds" area. Those are definitely the times where I want Steve home NOW!
Steve...5 months down, 7 to go. We are so blessed that he gets to come back to the States for his meetings in October. I know that this is not something "normal" (however normal the Air Force ever is), and that we are truly blessed. It will be an amazing 10 days together as a family.
I would have to say that this has, by far, been the hardest month so far. Steve received some hard news this week. But, in the midst of all our "trials" I remind myself how much I have to be thankful for. Steve HAS a job, even if it stinks at times. We have two healthy children and a wonderful family.

Going Back in Time
Isabella could be a pioneer girl! We had a wonderful day at Sauder Village in Ohio. It's an awesome place full of amazing experiences. We saw history up close as costumed staff lead many activities and demonstrations of daily rural life in the 19th and early 20th centuries. It was incredible to see all the different houses, churches, schools, and even teepee's.

Isabella loves bridges. She always calls the water running underneath a moat.

As usual, Jack was a great boy! He loves just strolling around and people watching.

Isabella playing tour guide.

She walked the ENTIRE day! Not one second in the stroller. And, on the way home she asked if we were going on a walking tonight. I wish I had a tenth of her energy!

Isabella will find a rock to pick up anywhere she goes.

Isabella on a Native American bed. She thought it was cool that the "mattress" was made out of cattails.
Isabella's favorite part was the Little Pioneers Homestead. There was a barn, garden and log cabin full of hands on experiences including a "milking cow" hen house and fire. It was a wonderful way to show what daily rural life was like in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

On the wagon.

Bella wanted to be a passenger.

Gathering up the eggs.

Milking the "cow."

She actually caught on quite quickly how to milk. I'll add this to the list of potential jobs for her when she gets older.

Cooking some yummy soup over the fire.

Another one of Isabella's favorite things in life...gardens.

Rocking away.
They also had a train that took us around the different areas. Isabella never passes up the opportunity to ride on a train!

No, you may not call me Bugs!
Today, as we were sitting down for dinner, my dad said, "bugs, what would you like to drink?" (For those of you that don't know, I've been called Bugs by family and CLOSE family friends as long as I can remember). Isabella said, "ya, Bugs, what are you drinking?" in a typical 3 year old girl way. I told Isabella that she may NOT call me Bugs, I was "Mommy" to her. She replied, "ok, I'll just call you Mommy Bugs." Ah NO! This is just a taste of Isabella's new attitude.
DADDY PLEASE COME HOME!
